Modern Migration
Set just off Old Hickory Lake in Hendersonville, TN, this project was more than a renovation, it was the story of a family starting fresh. The couple and their daughter had recently moved from California, seeking a slower, more grounded lifestyle. The home they chose had good bones, but a confusing layout and closed-off rooms made it feel far from intentional. My job was to rethink the floor plan from the inside out, and build something that reflected who they were becoming.
The aesthetic was natural with an edge: open, organic-feeling spaces layered with stone, wood, and soft whites, contrasted by bolder, more personal moments throughout. We brought in iron doors, moody wall treatments, and sculptural tile, and leaned into arches and custom moulding to soften the architecture while adding subtle depth. From the colorful pool bath to the dramatic bar lounge, each room was allowed to have its own energy, all while staying connected through tone and texture. The clients lived in California throughout much of the process, so a lot of the work happened through virtual walk-throughs, photos, and video calls. My role is always part designer, part communicator, part advocate, helping them feel confident in decisions from afar.
Modern Migration is one of my favorite reflections of the Graceful Interiors aesthetic: warm, natural, modern, with just the right amount of bold.
