One of the biggest misconceptions about working with an interior designer is that our job is simply to help you choose what looks good.
The selections are certainly part of it, but full-service interior design is much more than that. It’s creating the vision, working through the details, documenting the decisions, coordinating the pieces, and helping carry that vision all the way through construction.
At Graceful Interiors, my process is designed so you don’t have to know what decision needs to happen next. That’s my job.
The Design Consultation
After our initial inquiry call, we begin with a Design Consultation. I often call this our “brain dump” meeting.
We talk through your goals, priorities, scope, timeline, concerns, budget considerations, and all of the ideas already floating around in your head. From there, I create a tailored Design Scope so we both have a clear understanding of the project before moving forward.
The Budget & Design Direction
Once we’re officially working together, we get much more specific about your design preferences and investment.
This is where we talk about what you love, what you don’t, how you want your home to feel, and what those preferences actually mean for your budget.
You may walk in thinking you absolutely want Calacatta marble—until we talk about what it costs, how it performs, and what alternatives might give us the feeling you’re after.
I’d much rather have those conversations at the beginning than design a home you fall in love with only to discover it doesn’t align with what you want to spend.
The Design Phase
This is where everything starts coming together behind the scenes.
I develop the overall design aesthetic, space planning, layouts, drawings, and initial selections for your project. Instead of asking you to make disconnected decisions one at a time, I’m looking at the home as a whole and considering how each decision affects the next.
Once the design is ready, we meet for your Design Presentation.
This is one of my favorite meetings because it’s the first time you get to see the vision we’ve been talking about come to life. Depending on the project, we’ll review design boards, floor plans, drawings, renderings, material samples, and selections together.

The Selections Phase
After the overall design is established, we move into finalizing the details.
There are thousands of options available for any one project. Part of my job is narrowing that field before asking you to make a decision. I shop both for you and with you, typically grouping appointments—plumbing with appliances, tile with countertops, hardware with lighting—so the process feels manageable.
This is also when we incorporate feedback from your Design Presentation, revise drawings, finalize selections, and begin purchasing.
For many projects, I also handle ordering, tracking, procurement, delivery coordination, installation, and the inevitable issues that can come up along the way.
Preparing for Construction
For full-service projects where the design is completed before construction begins, all of those decisions are then organized into detailed documentation.
I create a Job Book containing the specifications and schedules for the project, along with a Design Plan Set showing the construction details and notes.
The goal is simple: when your builder or a trade has a question, the information they need is documented and easy to find.

The Execution Phase
Then we get to watch it become real.
Throughout construction, I’m regularly back on site reviewing the project as it progresses. That can include framing, drywall, plumbing and electrical rough-ins, flooring, tile layouts, cabinetry, countertops, lighting placement, hardware installation, and eventually the final walkthrough.
Every project is different, so some meetings may be combined while other unexpected site visits inevitably pop up.
My involvement doesn’t end when the selections are made. I’m there to help protect the design as it moves from paper into your actual home.

From an Idea to a Finished Home
Eventually, we reach the final walkthrough, work through remaining punch-list items, and get to the part everyone has been waiting for: a finished home.
Once everything is complete, I often return to style the space before we photograph the project—one final layer after months of planning, decisions, drawings, meetings, orders, and construction.
The exact process changes depending on whether we’re designing a new construction home, remodeling, or furnishing an existing space. But the purpose behind it stays the same.
You don’t hire Graceful Interiors simply for design advice. You hire me to create a cohesive vision, organize the hundreds of decisions required to achieve it, and help carry that vision from our first conversations all the way through completion.
